Description
TWO LETTUCES FOR THE SALAD GARDEN
Loose leaves and romaine in one small collection.
Red Sails brings red-tipped, ruffled leaves; Parris Island Cos brings upright green romaine. Keep the packets separate and sow a little of each when cool weather suits your garden.
WHAT IS INCLUDED
One packet of each.
Red Sails Lettuce
A looseleaf lettuce with green centers and red outer foliage. Grow for tender leaves and choose a harvest size that suits your kitchen.
Parris Island Cos Lettuce
A green romaine with upright leaves and pale ribs. Allow room for heads to develop, or harvest younger leaves.
SOW A LITTLE AT A TIME
Make room for a cool-season crop.
Lettuce does best in the cooler parts of the growing season. Plan sowings around your local conditions and leave enough space for the harvest stage you want. Keep the seedbed gently moist during germination.
Small successive sowings can spread the harvest. Heat can reduce germination and encourage bolting, so a large midsummer sowing is not a substitute for suitable conditions.
PACKET COUNTS AT A GLANCE
500 seeds across two separate packets.
- Red Sails Lettuce: 250 seeds.
- Parris Island Cos Lettuce: 250 seeds.
Seed counts are not guaranteed plant counts. Both are the same full-size packets sold individually.
BEFORE YOU SOW
A few useful details.
Are the two varieties mixed in one packet?
No. You receive two clearly labeled packets, one of each variety, so you can sow and harvest them separately.
Can I substitute a variety?
This is a fixed duo. Both lettuces are also sold individually.
Will they be ready together?
Not necessarily. Variety, temperature, sowing date, and your chosen harvest stage affect timing. Use each variety page to plan the crop.
